Residential Services

Residential Services at Ability Connection Texas

Residential Services at Ability Connection TexasAbility Connection Texas (ACT) provides caring, family-style living environments for adults with disabilities through its residential services program. ACT currently operates seven homes throughout the North Texas area. These homes, sometimes referred to as group homes, allow individuals with disabilities to live with as much autonomy and independence as possible.

ACT’s residential homes are staffed 24 hours a day. When residents are home, at least two (2) care professionals are there to assist residents with personal care activities such as, feeding, bathing, and personal hygiene, as needed. During sleeping hours, at least one (1) care professional is awake and on duty. ACT’s care professionals also clean and maintain homes, cook meals, and provide personal assistance based on each resident’s needs and abilities.

Our residential homes are accessible for individuals with mobility impairments. Homes are also equipped with roll-in showers and special lifts to help transport residents into and out of wheelchairs and beds.

Home and Community Based Services (HCS)

Residential Support or Supervised Living: these service options provide community-based living in homes for individuals with disabilities with no more than four (4) residents. Ability Connection Texas currently operates four homes under the Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) option:

Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Mental Retardation (ICF/MR)

This program option provides residential services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in homes with no more than six (6) residents. Ability Connection Texas currently operates three homes under the Intermediate Care Facility for Persons with Mental Retardation (ICF/MR) option:

All homes within ACT’s Residential Program are licensed and regulated by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS). Our homes are inspected regularly by DADS to ensure those we serve are receiving the very best care and that our procedures for privacy, records management, cleanliness, safety are top-notch. Ability Connection Texas is proud of its track record of inspections and are committed to creating a warm, caring, autonomous home environment for people with disabilities.

Jubilee House Basketball Team

Ability Connection Texas is currently planning for its next home. The newest addition will be a hybrid facility that combines the privacy of one-level apartment living with a common living area for socializing along with the traditional comforts of living in a home. If you are interested in learning more about this project, please contact us.

Or, you can make a difference by helping us build a new group home! Thousands of adults with disabilities are waiting for residential services like those provided by ACT. Due to long waiting lists that can extend over 10 years, many individuals with disabilities have no other options than to reside in large state institutions or nursing homes. Be part of the solution — help give people with disabilities the opportunity to live in a warm, caring home environment by donating toward ACT’s residential services.
